The Hepatitis Foundation of New Zealand is delighted to announce the appointment of Nancy Carey as our newest Community Hepatitis Nurse.
Nancy is a familiar face to many in the hepatology sector, having worked alongside the Foundation in various capacities for over 20 years. Her deep clinical roots and passion for patient care make her an outstanding addition to our national team.
Nancy’s journey in New Zealand began in 2001 after moving from the UK. She joined Waikato Hospital, where she spent 15 years managing complex clinical trials for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Following this, she spent six years as the Nurse Coordinator for the Te Manawa Taki Regional Hep C service, providing vital leadership in liver health across the region.
After a brief 18-month tenure in surgical and endoscopy nursing at Braemar Hospital, Nancy felt the pull back to hepatology. We are thrilled that the "chance opening" at the Foundation lured her back to the specialty where she has spent the majority of her career.
Nancy is known for her people-centric approach and her drive to constantly hone her clinical skills. Regarding her new role, Nancy says: "The Foundation is run by a brilliant, dedicated, and tireless team, and I am excited to be the newest member. I hope I can use my knowledge of hepatitis to the benefit of the Foundation and the people we serve."
Based in Hamilton, Nancy is a proud nana of two and a self-confessed entertainer. When she isn’t supporting our community, she is likely at home with her husband, Steve, baking her signature sourdough bread or crafting cakes for special occasions.
Please join us in welcoming Nancy to the team! While Nancy works remotely, she is eager to get to know the wider community and our partners. Feel free to reach out for a virtual "coffee catch-up" to say hello.
